Radon fans run continuously and while NRPP requirements call for a disconnect switch, the fans should never be turned off. Radon concentrations will return to elevated levels in just a few short hours.

We use a lock friendly switch box for external radon mitigations. Especially important if you have kids that may play with the switch box and could turn off the fan.

Fan selection is a balance between the vacuum pressure needed, based upon sub-slab conditions, and air volume needed which is based upon cavity sizes and tightness of the slab.

A larger fan is not always a better choice. Oversized fans can bring more noise, excess energy loss and problems with other building systems.

Careful attention to system design is much more critical for homes that may require larger fan systems. Likewise for older homes on tight soil that may require a fan with high suction capacity.

If the Radon mitigation system needs to move large volumes of air, the pipe is more important than the strength of the fan. 3" pipe moves up to 80 cfm while 4" pipe moves up to 150 cfm.

The Radon fan must be placed in unlivable space due to the possibility of an exhaust leak. The Radon fan must be outside or in an attic that does not have livable space above it. It can be in a garage that has exposed rafters/trusses.
